New Information Sheet from ACECQA on Outdoor Safety

ACECQA has published new guidance on providing outdoor learning spaces that support children’s participation in active physical play while aligning with the objectives and guiding principles of the National Quality Framework (NQF). 

The information sheet provides details about the benefits of outdoor space including the use of verandas, the legislative requirements for indoor and outdoor space and information to be included in service approval applications. You can access the new information sheet here

Note that for services in the ACT, in addition to ACECQA’s guidance, the ACT is seeking to formalise a jurisdiction specific definition for the outdoor environment as supported by the ACT Planning Guidelines and ACT Outdoor Guidance.

Red Nose Day

The 35th anniversary of Red Nose Day will be held this Friday, 11 August 2023. Red Nose Day is a major fundraising and awareness campaign for Red Nose and catalysed research into the reasons why babies die suddenly in their sleep. 

The First Red Nose Day was held in 1988 in Australia and since then it has become a beloved day for Australians to get silly and fundraise to help save little lives and support families.

Funds raised on Red Nose Day over the last 30 years have resulted in an incredible 80 per cent reduction in sudden infant deaths.

Be Audit Ready – NEW factsheet available!

As members are aware, from 1 July 2023, it became mandatory for providers to take ‘all reasonable steps’ to ensure families pay their Child Care Subsidy (CCS) gap fees via electronic funds transfer (EFT).

The Australian Government Department of Education (‘the Department’) will be auditing service providers to ensure compliance with the new EFT gap fee payment requirement, as well as other obligations under Family Assistance Law (FAL).

Our latest factsheet, ‘Be Audit Ready’, will help you be prepared and can be downloaded from our website.

This factsheet is designed to assist you in demonstrating compliance with the new requirements.

FDCA Online Engagement Series: Call for Participants

The FDCA Online Engagement Series is a new initiative that provides FDCA members with easy access to online panel sessions that provide educators and service staff with high quality professional learning content.

The sessions cover a wide range of subject matter relevant to the family day care sector and have received fantastic feedback from the membership to date.
