National Burns Awareness Month

Most burns occur in the home, with contact burns the second most common cause of burn injuries to children.

There have been instances in Family Day Care where children have sustained burns from touching hot surfaces. The risk increases in winter with the cold weather and increased use of heaters and fires.

Try incorporating there safely tips in your home:

  • Use safety guards around fireplaces, stoves and heaters
  • Always supervise children around heaters, open fires and candles

June is National Burns Awareness Month and aims to drive greater awareness of burns prevention and the correct first aid treatment for burns. Check the Kidsafe website for resources and information on how easily burns can happen, prevention strategies, making safe choices and burns first aid.

Look out for posts on the FDCA Facebook page sharing resources and information for National Burns Awareness Month.
