Australia’s national approved learning frameworks, Being and Becoming: The Early Years Learning Framework for Australia (EYLF), and My Time, Our Place: Framework for School Age Care in Australia (MTOP), have been updated and will take effect in early 2024.
During 2023, approved providers and their services are encouraged to familiarise themselves with EYLF V2.0 and MTOP V2.0 as they apply to them and begin incorporating the new aspects into their educational program and practice.
Make sure you are prepared for the change to EYLF V2.0 and MTOP V2.0, by heading to the ACECQA website here. You’ll be able to not only access Version 2 of each of the national frameworks, but also a range of supporting material and resources designed to assist educators and services in implementation.
The original national approved learning frameworks will remain in operation alongside these in 2023 until they are revoked in early 2024.
With bushfire season already upon us, it serves as a timely reminder for all family day care services and educators to review and update their emergency and evacuation policies, plans and procedures.
Under the Education and Care Services National Regulations, an approved provider must:
In addition, for family day care specifically, the principal office and every family day care residence must consider and plan for the individual nature of each premise. For the purposes of preparing the emergency and evacuation procedures, the approved provider must ensure that a risk assessment is conducted to identify potential emergencies that are relevant to the service (regulation 97).
Read more about the specific requirements in ACECQA’s information sheet on Emergency and Evacuation Policy Guidelines policy guidelines.
It’s also a good idea to familiarise yourself with the support offered by the federal Department of Education to services and families in the event of a CCS period of emergency being declared and to ensure that the contact details for your service are correct through the Provider Entry Point or their Third party Software.
Finally, we encourage services and educators to check out their state and territory Department of Education website information and resources. Many have created helpful templates and other resources to ensure services are as prepared as they can be this summer.
