Jobs and Skills Australia (JSA) is seeking feedback and input from the early childhood education and care (ECEC) sector on their ECEC Capacity Study. A consultation paper has been developed, with guiding questions, to support stakeholder feedback on a number of themes that will be critical to supporting the current and future needs of the ECEC workforce. For example, factors driving attraction, retention and career progression; impact of regulatory settings; current and future workforce requirements; education and training system responsiveness to sector workforce needs; and case studies on innovative practices. You do not have to answer all questions in responding to the consultation paper.
Download the consultation paper here. Submissions are due by 1 pm (AEDT) on Thursday 11 January 2024. Family Day Care Australia will also be making a submission on behalf of the sector.
JSA is undertaking this study in partnership with HumanAbility, the Jobs and Skills Council (JSC) with the responsibility for the Children’s Education and Care, Aged and Disability, Health, Human Services and Sport and Recreation industries.
The feedback received through this consultation will be used by JSA to prepare an interim progress report in February 2024, followed by a final report scheduled for release in May 2024. The final report will be provided to the Australian Government to support the development of the Government’s Early Years Strategy.
The Australian Education Research Organisation (AERO) has recently released two sets of practice resources for early childhood education and care services. The resources focus on assessment for children's learning and play based learning and intentionality. An overview is listed below.

On 8 December 2023 a session titled Beyond Self-Care: An Educator Wellbeing Guide will take place at 12.30pm AEDT.
About the session
Be You commissioned Monash University to conduct 5 projects investigating educator wellbeing. Based on the research findings, this guide encourages us to think about educator wellbeing as a shared responsibility.
The Beyond Self-Care: An Educator Wellbeing Guide goes beyond self-care strategies, supporting leaders and Action Teams to create environments where all educators can thrive. The guide includes suggested activities and actions to promote educator wellbeing that you can adapt to fit your unique setting.
Join this session for the opportunity to connect with a Be You Consultant and other educators to explore how the guide can be utilised in your learning community.
