The Productivity Commission is inviting final feedback on its draft report on its Inquiry into Early Childhood Education and Care, which was released on 23 November 2023.
Details about how you can provide feedback are on the Commission’s website here.
The draft report sets out the Commission’s draft findings and recommendations to address the barriers that affect access to early childhood education and care (ECEC) services and support better outcomes for children and families. The report focuses on improvements to ECEC availability, affordability, inclusivity, flexibility and regulation that will help to deliver 30 hours (or three days) of quality ECEC a week for all children aged 0-5.
The draft report can be accessed here.
There are also summary slides of the key recommendations on the Commission’s website.
A high level summary of findings and recommendations most relevant to family day care can be read in our 29 November FDCM. Family Day Care Australia will be lodging a written submission to the Productivity Commission on behalf of its members.
We remind members that services and educators must start using the updated national approved learning frameworks from 1 February.

Researchers from Deakin University are inviting family day care service managers and/or coordinators to take part in a survey to understand how family day care service providers can be supported to empower children towards optimal health.
The survey takes no more than 15 minutes to complete. It seeks your input on opportunities and strategies to foster healthier eating, activity, and sleep habits among young children in family day care. Please follow this link to find out more and if interested in participating, follow the prompts to provide consent to participate.
You can go into a draw to win a $100 gift voucher by completing the survey.

This research is conducted by Deakin University, as part of the NHMRC funded Centre of Research Excellence in Translating Early Prevention of Obesity in Childhood. FDCA is supporting the research team through connecting the researchers to representatives from family day care approved services to participate.

Following extensive consultation in 2023, the Australian Government has released its draft Early Years Strategy.
This important Strategy will provide the overarching 10 year framework to inform how the Australian Government will prioritise young children’s wellbeing and deliver the best possible outcomes for them. It aims to support improved coordination or government policies impacting early childhood development.
Read more about the draft Early Years Strategy here.
The Government is now inviting feedback on the draft Early Years Strategy from the community and key stakeholders.
You can do this via a short 10 minute survey here.
Submissions are also welcomed and are due by 9 February. FDCA will be making a submission in response to the draft Early Years Strategy on behalf of its members.
