Family Day Care Pre-Election Forum

Join Family Day Care Australia (FDCA) CEO Andrew Paterson on Wednesday 23 April live at 4.00pm AEST, as he hosts a Pre-Election Forum with The Hon Dr Anne Aly MP, Minister for Early Childhood Education and Angie Bell MP, the Shadow Minister for Early Childhood Education.

The forum will explore how the next Australian Government can leverage the capacity and unique strengths of the family day care sector to better meet the needs of children, families and communities across Australia.

The forum will be streamed live across all FDCA’s channels, including FDCA’s website, Facebook page and YouTube channel. Links to these channels are listed below:

Before the Pre-Election Forum, we encourage you to read FDCA’s Request for Election Policy Commitments for the Family Day Care Sector document, which outlines our key policy, program and funding reform priorities presented to Australia’s major political parties and forms the basis for our pre-election advocacy efforts.

Shape the Conversation

We will be calling on the Minister and Shadow Minister to articulate their vision for family day care in the broader ECEC landscape into the future and how, if elected, their government’s policies will support this vision.

We’re calling on all FDCA members to shape the conversation and submit your questions to be asked at the forum.

Questions can be addressed to both or either representative and should focus on the key issues relating to the provision of family day care that are significant to you, your service, and the children, families and communities you support.

To submit your question, please click here

Please note: due to limited time, it may not be possible to present all submitted questions during the forum. Additionally, while there may be time during the event for a live Q&A from viewers, this will be limited.

Promoting your family day care business – What you need to know

Did you know that there are requirements under the National Law when it comes to advertising a family day care business?

While educators are able to promote their business, any promotion material must make it clear that the educator is operating as part of an approved family day care service.

Under Section 104 of the Education and Care Services National Law, it is an offence to publish (or cause to publish) an advertisement for an education and care service unless the service is already approved, or an application for service approval has been submitted and is awaiting a decision.

ACECQA further clarifies that a family day care educator can advertise if they make sure that they are part of an approved service. Any advertisement should indicate which approved service they are promoting and include contact details for that service.

Advertising and promotional material and platforms could include (but are not limited to):

  • Websites
  • Emails
  • Social media platforms
  • Printed materials such as family/parent handbooks

You can talk to your coordination team if you are not sure of your obligations in this regard.

For more information, visit ACECQA’s guidance on Advertising a service.

New FDCA Learning Hub Module now available

We're excited to announce the addition of a new module, Dysregulation and maladaptive behaviours in young children, to the FDCA Learning Hub

As part of our ongoing commitment to delivering high quality, contemporary professional development resources for members, the addition of this new module, along with the recent addition of Action research in behaviour guidance: The Phoenix Cups® approach, means that you have access to over 45 professional learning modules included in your FDCA membership at no extra cost!

This course is designed to support educators in developing a better understanding of the complexity of children’s behaviour and why a timely and consistent approach is important. You will explore the pathways to emotional regulation and consider possible behaviours children may demonstrate when they are in a state of dysregulation.

This module is designed for all levels of early childhood educators, coordinators, educational leaders, service staff, managers and approved providers.

As an FDCA member, you can access this brand-new module through your FDCA Member Zone.

Child Care Subsidy periods of emergency

The Australian Government Department of Education (the Department) has declared a Child Care Subsidy (CCS) period of emergency in several local government areas (LGAs) in Queensland due to the impact of flooding. The CCS period of emergency has been extended and now applies from 24 March 2025 to 17 April 2025.

If services, families or educators are affected by Tropical Cyclone Alfred or another natural disaster, please visit the Department of Education website to view the most up to date list of declared LGAs and timeframes.

Providers, services, and families in affected areas can access emergency support for the specified dates. The Department will continue to monitor emergency situations and update the list as needed.
