The next instalment of the FDCA Online Engagement Series, Critical Reflection for Family Day Care, will take place tonight from 6.00pm - 7.30pm AEDT.

As Critical Reflection has been an area that family day care performs less well in, this is a must watch episode for all family day care educators and service staff looking for ways to gain insights and knowledge in this area.

This episode will see FDCA co-hosts, Advocacy and Engagement Manager Michael Farrell and Sector Liaison Coordinator Lyndall Cotterill joined by:

Our panel will focus on the following topics:

  • Understanding Critical Reflection
  • Tools and Strategies for Critical Reflection
  • Applying and Demonstrating Critical Reflection

In exploring these topics, the panel will address the differences between reflection and critical reflection and also examine why critical reflection is particularly important in the context of family day care. The panel will also unpack ways that educators can critically reflect on their practice whilst embedding it into their daily routines and how services can create a supportive environment that encourages a culture of critical reflection that is sustained over time.

Planned System Upgrades: 5-6 November 2024

We would like to advise all FDCA members that we will be undertaking planned upgrades across some online systems on Tuesday 5 and Wednesday 6 November 2024. This will result in a number of online systems and platforms being offline across the FDCA website during this period.

We apologise for any inconvenience and thank you for your understanding. Any members who have insurance renewals during this period, will be contacted individually to assist with their renewal.

CCS Period of Emergency Declared for NSW Storms

The Australian Government Department of Education has declared a Child Care Subsidy (CCS) period of emergency in parts of New South Wales impacted by a major electrical outage.

The CCS period of emergency applies from Monday 21 October to Tuesday 22 October 2024 in the following local government areas:

  • Broken Hill City Council
  • Central Darling Shire Council

The Department will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as required.

Happy Diwali for 2024!

Happy Diwali to all of our members and their families!

Diwali, also known as Deepavali, gets its name from the Sanskrit word Deepavali, which means "row of lights". It symbolises the spiritual "victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance".

Diwali will be celebrated from Thursday 31 October to Friday 1 November 2024.
