Remembrance Day 2023 will take place on Saturday 11 November. On this day, Australians pay respect and pause for one minute to remember the service and sacrifice of our veterans and current serving personnel.
Observed in Commonwealth member states since the end of the First World War in 1919, Remembrance Day honours armed forces members who have died in the line of duty and those serving around the world today.
Deepawali (Diwali) is the festival of lights and lamps and will be celebrated on November 12, 2023.
It symbolises the spiritual "victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance".
The festival gets its name from the row (avali) of clay lamps (deepa) that those of Hindu, Sikh, Jain and Newar Buddhist faith light outside their homes to symbolise the inner light that protects from spiritual darkness.
