As you may be aware, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) is undertaking an Inquiry into the market for the supply of early childhood education and care services in Australia.
The ACCC has been tasked with examining how costs and prices differ in the Australian childcare market according to a range of factors including:
The ACCC needs your help to ensure the voices of family day care educators are heard!
You have a unique opportunity to influence the ACCC’s inquiry as it considers costs, workforce issues and other factors impacting the sector.
The ACCC has prepared a short survey specifically for family day care educators, to complete the survey please click here.
Your feedback will have a direct influence on the ACCC’s understanding of ECEC in Australia.
The survey won’t take long to complete, can be completed anonymously, and all questions are optional. The survey is open until midnight Sunday 30 July.
FDCA strongly encourages educators to undertake this brief survey. The ACCC Inquiry will have a significant impact on future policy decisions and mechanisms that affect the price of delivery and support for the ECEC sector as a whole. We need YOU to make sure the direct experience of family day care educators is considered as part of the Inquiry.
If you have any questions about the survey, you can contact Cassandra Greenough or Sarah Jeppson at ChildcareInquiryTaskforce@accc.gov.au
We’re calling for expressions of interest from FDCA members who would be interested in participating as panellists in our Online Engagement Series.

The Islamic New Year, Al-Hijra, commemorates the journey that Muhammad made from Mecca to Medina to flee persecution and set up the first Islamic state. The word “Hijra” means migration. After arriving in Medina, Muhammad established the first Muslim community founded on Islamic principles. For this reason, it is considered the start of the Islamic era and the Muslim New Year.

Next week is Early Learning Matters Week, a week-long celebration focused on increasing awareness and understanding of the enormous importance of early childhood education and care and the difference it makes to children’s learning, development and wellbeing.
The theme for this year is ‘learning through connection’, which allows services to consider and share the ways in which ‘connection’ supports children’s learning. For over 60,000 years, children have been learning through connection to community and place on this land. We honour this connection and recognise the ongoing ties created in early learning settings across the country, particularly those in family day care. To learn more about the theme, click here.
There are numerous ways to get involved in Early Learning Matters Week 2023. Join the Early Learning Matters Week Facebook page or register an event that you may have in store to raise the awareness of the value that early learning plays in children’s lives. Photos and videos of the events can be sent to EarlyLearningMatters@earlychildhood.org.au. If you are using social media channels, remember to use the hashtag #EarlyLearningMatters.
