Lunar New Year's Day will take place this Sunday 22 January 2023.
Also known as Chinese New Year, the event is widely celebrated across Australia each year to mark the beginning of the year and celebrate with friends and families.
There are four elements to New Year festivities, beginning a week out with Little Year, a day of memorial and prayer, followed by New Year's Eve, a day of reuniting and gift-giving.
Some popular Lunar New Year activities include putting up decorations, eating dinner with family on New Year's Eve, distributing red envelopes and other gifts, setting off firecrackers and fireworks, and watching lion and dragon dances.
It is also a time of paying respect to ancestors and acknowledging their contributions.
We encourage all of our members celebrating Lunar New Year to contact us through the FDCA Facebook page with photos of your activities and set ups!

ACCC child care price inquiry
The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has started its inquiry into early childhood education and care prices. A consultation schedule is now available on the ACCC website.
The schedule includes a wide range of consultation and information gathering activities, including a national online survey which is expected to be live in April 2023.
Stakeholders include:
The ACCC will provide an interim report to the Treasurer by 30 June 2023, and its final report by 31 December 2023.
FDCA will be engaging with the inquiry on behalf of the sector as a whole and will consult with members at relevant points in order to establish evidence-based and broadly representative positions. We will keep you informed of progress as it arises, though would also encourage services and educators to engage with the inquiry independently.
